Dr. Kate Blunt's son Jasper has an incurable lung disease (cystic fibrosis). An older abandoned dog named Whistler comes into the animal shelter and forms an instant connection to Jasper. Was it fate that Jasper and Whistler came into each other's lives? What happens to Whistler? Does someone adopt him or does he get put to sleep?
